ABOUT GENTRY

"Few artists have been able to bring the type of genuine showmanship and songwriting talent to studio and stage like Gentry Bronson."
- Penelope Biver, Starrider Media, Chicago

The hard working San Francisco-based musician continues to draw worldwide fans to his piano-driven music. The intersection of storytelling and melody in his songwriting and a unique vocal style, have earned him regular comparisons to Ben Folds, Tom Waits, Tori Amos and David Gray. And his stage presence and theatrics have drawn similarities to Nick Cave, Michael Stipe and Hedwig & The Angry Inch.

"Gentry Bronson can see the future of the music business, one in which he hits it big without selling his soul to a big recording company."
- Dan Fost, San Francisco Chronicle

GENTRY'S NEW 2009 RELEASE

Gentry just released his new self-titled 2009 EP during his October and November 'Graveyard Fever' tour in Europe. The EP is a collection of new original songs now available online. Produced by Gentry and Jesse Brewster (who also co-produced Gentry's 2008 single "Avond"), it was recorded in Northern California at Shabbie Road studios by Alan Hertz. In addition to Gentry and Jesse, other musicians on the album include drummer and Gentry's long time collaborator, Alex Aspinall, along with singer Allyson Paige and guitarist James DePrato.

The new EP was mixed in Los Angeles at Blue Velvet studio by another of Gentry's long time collaborators, Brian Hawlk, and mastered by Ken Lee (who has done mastering work for Nirvana, R.E.M. and Sonic Youth), the record moves into yet more new musical territory for Gentry. For the cover, Gentry worked with artist, Ethen B. Luce, and Ethen used a photograph of Gentry performing a concert in Minnesota taken by Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, John Stennes.

"Gentry Bronson's new EP is an impressive quartet of power pop ballads reminiscent of Billy Joel and John Mellencamp. Bronson has the rare gift for melody and to write sophisticated musical arrangements. He has written fascinating story songs that show why he's won three Northern California Songwriters Association awards."
- Paul Liberatore, Here Magazine

Gentry began playing and performing at age 5, but emerged into the San Francisco scene after winning 3 Northern California Songwriters Association awards in 2000, and then forming the band, the Night Watchmen, in 2001. He released 3 records with the band from 2001 to 2005. Night Watchmen singles reached the top of both Mp3.com and Garageband.com's alternative music charts, and stayed there for months. At the same, he started his solo music career, releasing several song-based and instrumental records from 2003 to 2007 and gaining an ever stronger and more wide spread fan base as a soloist.

His last full length solo record 'No War' was released in 2007, with the single 'Shine' on a Spring 2007 Alternative Music Press compilation.

"'No War' is a very well produced album with the perfect amount of layers to keep listeners involved, and not get them lost within the songs. Gentry Bronson provides great piano work and melody lines reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Billy Joel, taking from great collections of piano rock."
- Damon Kellard, Bryan Farrish Radio Promotion

Gentry followed "No War" with several U.S. and European tours. In October 2008, Gentry released a new single, an English version of "Avond", originally by famous Dutch artist Boudewijn de Groot and Lennaert Nijgh. He then took a break from writing, recording and performing with a self-described 'disappearance' for 5 months.

"Gentry's extended hiatus from songwriting, performing and recording has given him wisdom he hopes to pass on to his listeners to help them deal with the chaos and stresses of these modern times. "
- Adam Hammer, SC Times

Gentry continues to instruct music when he's in the San Francisco Bay Area, and teaches students of all ages. He also performs benefit concerts each year and supports as many progressive causes as he can. Throughout his many record releases, performances, and diversely driven career, Gentry is an inspiring and original artist. He often says, "Live life right now."

"Like Wilco's 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot', Bronson lays it on the line with every word he utters while seated in front of his piano, his fingers rolling deliberately cross the keyboard as he sings. Bronson also has vision, and a certain kind of wisdom that comes forth whenever he sits down and begins to play."
- Gregory J. Pleshaw, New Mexico Art News

"From the heights of the independent music scene comes someone to get excited about. Like a modern-day Billy Joel with a flair for the alternative, Gentry's music is refreshingly vibrant and exciting every step of the way."
- Sheila Kirsten Hughes, Nubzilla

"Gentry Bronson is a gem, an exceptional talent. I wish I had the correct words to tell you of his talent and his dramatic skills as he sings and plays the keyboard and captivates his audience. The audience seemed under his spell."
- Lucia Whitney, Bread & Roses

"Gentry's music covers the waterfront of beautiful losers and missed connections weaving in and out of traditional singer-songwriting, jazz and blues."
